List of RBI Bank Holidays 2022

Banks are closed on public or national holidays and during some festivals depending on the region. Banks' offices either remain closed on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month or have shorter working hours. Here is a RBI list of  holidays in India , when banks in India typically remain closed:

1. Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti

January 9, 2022 will be celebrated as Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti. The Sikh community across the country will come together to celebrate the 355th birth anniversary of their 10th Guru Gobind Singh.

2. Republic Day

This year we are going to celebrate the 73rd Republic Day of India. Our constitution came into play on 26th January in the year 1950 and till this date,

That is why we celebrate 26 January as Republic Day. This year it will be celebrated on Wednesday.

3. Vasant Panchami

Vasant Panchami will fall on February 5 this year. It is considered to be an auspicious day where people start something new in their lives like marriage, business, buying a house, etc.

As they believe it will bring great success to their lives. This also represents the arrival of spring season.

4. Guru Ravidas Jayanti

The birth of great saint Guru Ravidas is celebrated on this day. This year we are going to celebrate the 645th birth anniversary of the famous personality. The jayanti is on February 16, 2022 which is Wednesday.

5. Maha shivaratri

This day holds a great value for Hindus. This day is celebrated as the union of Lord Shiva and goddess Shakti.

Usually it is celebrated in the months of February and March. This year it will be celebrated on March 1, 2022. People do fasting and worship Lord Shiva on this day.

6. Holi

The famous festival which is also known as the festival of colours will be celebrated on March 18 this year. This festival marks the celebration of good over evil.

A day before holi is celebrated as choti holi or holika dahan. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu killed the arrogant king Hiranyakashyap on Holi.

People play with colours and enjoy the taste of gujiyas and thandai with their friends and family of colours will be celebrated on March 18, 2022.

7. S. Bhagat Singh Martyrdom Day

To celebrate our great freedom fighters- Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivram Rajguru, 23rd March is celebrated as S. Bhagat Singh Martyrdom Day.

8. Ram Navami

Ram Navami is celebrated to remember the day when Lord Ram was born. April 10, 2022 will be celebrated as Ram Navami this year.

9. Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was a famous politician who fought for the rights of lower caste people. In order to give him respect, April 14 is celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti.

10. Eid-ul-fitr

A month-long Ramadan finally comes to an end on this day. The muslim community worship their deity and thank him for good health. This year this day will be celebrated on May 3rd, 2022 which is Tuesday.

11. Buddha Purnima

This day holds a great importance for all the Buddhist people. Gautam Buddha who is the founder of the religion Buddhism is celebrated on this day. It is being celebrated on May 16 this year.

12. Bakri Eid

The festival of sacrifice which is mostly celebrated by the Muslims is dated between 9th July, Saturday and 10th July, Sunday.

13. Muharram

The Muslim mew year will be celebrated on 9th August this year. The Muslim community celebrates this day in their own way. The Shia muslims mourn while Sunnis prefer to fast on this day.

14. Rakshabandhan

Rakshabandhan or Rakhi is the festival of love. This day is celebrated to cherish the love between brother and sister. This year, 11th August will be celebrated as Rakshabandhan.

15. Janmashtami

Janmashtami is of great importance for all the devotees of Lord Krishna. It is the day when Lord Krishna was born. This year, it will be celebrated on 18th August, 2022 which is on Thursday.

16. Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti

Not every part of India celebrates this day. Only the northern states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab are known to celebrate this day. October 7th is marked as Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti.

17. Gandhi Jayanti

Here comes yet another day that holds a great value for all the Indians. The father of our nation was born on this day. To give him a tribute, we celebrate October 2nd as Gandhi Jayanti every year.

18. Vijaya Dashami

Say it VijayaDashami or Dussehra, this festival is well known for its positive vibes. It marks the victory of Lord Ram against the demon Ravana. The festival will be celebrated on October 5, 2022 this year.

19. Eid-e-milad

Prophet’s birthday is celebrated on this day. This year it will be celebrated on October 7 which is Friday.

20. Diwali

This day is cherished by all the Hindus as Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years and people decorated the city with diyas to welcome him.

Today also, people decorate their homes with flowers, lights and rangoli. The festival will be celebrated on October 24, which is on Monday.

21. Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guru Nanak Jayanti will be celebrated on November 8, 2022. This day marks the birthday of the first Sikh guru and is very important to the Sikh community.

22. Christmas

Every year Christmas is celebrated on December 25th. This day marks the birth of Jesus. Christians all across the globe decorate Christmas trees and buy gifts for their loved ones.
