According to a belief, Lord Rama contributed to this goodness with the blessings of Maa Durga. Therefore, during the ten days of Dussehra, the ten forms of mother goddess Durga are worshipped. 

People have termed these days as Navratri which means nine nights. On the ninth day, nine girls are served food, pray and are offered hospitality by people who keep fast in remembrance of Maa Durga. 

On the tenth day, a replica of Ravana is burnt signifying the good over evil. This day is also known as Vijaya Dashami which means the successful tenth day.
