Description Of Bank Holidays In November 2022

1. Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guru Nanak Jayanti also known as Guru Nanak Ji Gurpurab this year is on 8th November, 2022. This day is the most important festival in Sikhism as this day marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

He was the spiritual teacher. This day is celebrated on Kartik Poornima on the 15th lunar day as per the Hindu calendar and as per the Gregorian calendar, this day falls in the month of November generally.

This year will mark the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. He was the founder of Sikhism in the 15th century and he was the first guru among the ten gurus of the Sikh people.

Guru Nanak was born on April 15, 1469, in Rai Bhoi Di now which is in the Sheikhupura District of Pakistan. Nanak started writing for Guru Granth Sahib and created 974 hymns.

The Guru Granth Sahib is a collection of the various hymns for the god and about the creation and one important message would be that the creator of the cosmos is one and selfless service to humanity.

The celebrations start in the Gurudwaras two days before the festival. There are two days long non-stop recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib starts and this is called Akhand Path

A day before the Jayanti there is a Nagar Kirtan that happens led by five men called Panj Pyare holding the Sikh triangular flag called Nishan Sahib.

And on this day Langars happen for all the people here and the food is served to everyone. 

2. Seng Kut Snem

This festival is celebrated annually to celebrate the Seng Movement to protect and preserve the indigenous Khasi culture from the Britishers.

On Aug 23, 1899, 16 young nationalities formed Seng Khasi to protect indigenous religion and rich culture and language. This is what today has become the pride of the Khasi people.

People love their language and rich heritage and take pride in them. As of today, Seng Kut Snem serves two purposes: first it marks the year-end with traditional thanksgivings and celebrates the culture of Khasi.

Today's festival includes things which highlight the culture like dance, traditional games, songs, etc.

3. Lachit Divas

This festival is celebrated in Assam. Lachit Divas or Lachit day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of the Ahom army general Lachit Borphukan.

He became famous because of his bravery and the intellect he used to defeat the Mughals who were more than them and after facing failure in the previous attempts.

In the 17th century, the Mughal empire was expanding and due to this expansion, the Mughals reached the region of Assam and also captured some parts of Assam which were under the Ahom Kingdom.

Lachit fought a battle as the commander on the battlefield of Saraighat in 1671 even after being outnumbered Lachit with his plane and tactics managed to win and regain the lost part of the Ahom KIngdom.

After the battle of Saraighat on the Brahmaputra river, now Guwahati, he died of an unknown disease in April 1672. Despite the victory at Saraighat, Lichit's brother succeeded him as Borphukan and left Guwahati in control in 1679 but Ahoms again took it back in 1682.

4. Second and Fourth Saturday

Every bank in the country has two days off on the second Saturday and the fourth Saturday of the month and it is applicable for all the months of the year.

 It doesn't matter where you live in the country, whichever part you live in these two days, holidays are for every bank with three national day holidays.

In November these two days are on 12 November (second Saturday) and 26 November (fourth Saturday) respectively. There are some more days for banks to have a holiday. These days are national holidays and some public holidays.

National holidays among them three are most important and on these, three banks will not open under any circumstance days like Republic Day on 26 January, Independence Day on 15 August,

And Gandhi Jayanti on 02 October others are like Rama Navami, Ambedkar Jayanti, Good Friday, Eid Dussehra, Prophet’s birthday and Diwali. Public holidays will depend upon the state in which you live.
