Usually, the bank holidays are pronounced as per the provisions of Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

These annual offs are announced for institutions which are financial in nature and not for factories.

A provision of a mandatory off is provided for all employees under contract of employment on days of national importance such as the Republic Day (26th January), Independence Day (15th August) and Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October) among others.

With respect to the state of Punjab, certain holidays are designated in addition to day-offs already designated on a nation-wide basis.

Bank Holidays 2022 Punjab include (but not limited to): 

1. Republic Day

Republic day celebrations will be conducted on the 26th of January in all the states of India

2- Vasant Panchami 

Scheduled to be celebrated on the 5th of February, this day marks the arrival of spring as people in Punjab pay respect to the Goddess Saraswati.

3- Guru Ravidas Jayanti

Celebrates the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas on 16 February 2022.

4- Maha Shivaratri 

The annual celebration of Maha Shivratri is scheduled to be celebrated on 1st March.

5- Holi

Known as the festival of colors, Holi is a festival which will be celebrated nationwide on 19th March

6- Ram Navami 

Celebrating the birth of Lord Rama, Ram Navami will be celebrated on 10 April 2022 in Punjab.

7- Mahavir Jayanti

On 14 April the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir will be celebrated.

8- Vaisakh

It is one of the most popular festivals in Punjab which marks the beginning of the harvest season in Punjab. It will be celebrated on 14 April.

9- Dr. Amberdkar Jayanti

The birth anniversary of Dr. Amberdkar will be celebrated on 14th April.

10- Good Friday

15th April is the day of celebrating peace and atonement among christians all around India through the Good Friday occasion.

11- Idul Fitr

Ramadan is scheduled to end on the eve of 2nd May which makes the 3rd of May the day when Idul Fitr will be celebrated nationwide.

12- Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji's Martyrdom Day

This occasion is celebrated on 3rd of June by Sikhs all around the world.

13- Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti

The birth anniversary of Sant Guru Kabir will be celebrated on 14 June 2022.

14- Bakrid

The famous festival of sacrifice and repent will be celebrated among the Muslim community on 10 July 2022.

15- Independence Day

On the 15th of August 2022 India will celebrate its 75th Independence Day. This is included in Punjab govt holidays 2022.

16- Janmashtami

Celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, Janmashtami will be solemnized on 19 August nationwide.

17- Parkash Utsav Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

Celebrated on the 28th of August, this day marks the completion of the compilation of Guru Granth Sahib.

18- S. Bhagat Singh Ji Jayanti

A holiday designated on September 28, 2022 on the occasion of S. Bhagat Singh Ji’s Jayanti, is specifically in the State of Punjab and not a national holiday.
 

19- Gandhi Jayanti

The birth anniversary of the father of the nation, namely Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi will be celebrated on 2 October.

20- Vijaya Dashami

5 October marks the celebration of Dussehra, the day when lord Rama defeated the demon king Ravana.

21- Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti

will celebrate the birth anniversary of Balmiki on 9th October.

22- Diwali

The festival of lights will be conducted on 25 October.

23- Guru Nanak Jayanti

The birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak will be celebrated on 8 November.

24- Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji's Martyrdom Day

This day is celebrated as the Shaheedi Divas of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur on 28 November.

25- Christmas Day 

The birth anniversary of Jesus Christ will be celebrated on 25th of December.

In addition to the designated leaves which employees working or deemed to be working in Punjab, all Banks which are public or fall under the Government shall be shut,

So  in the list of bank holidays 2022 Punjab on these dates no operations shall be conducted on every 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. This amenity is extended with reference and in compliance with provisions of the All India Bank Employees’ Association and the India Banks’ Association.

1. Is 23 March 2022 a bank holiday in Punjab?

In the original list of bank holidays released in accordance with the provisos, particularly Section 25, of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, 23rd March was not included as a designated Bank holiday.

It is no covert fact that how historical is 23rd March in the struggle for our Indian independence -where young Sikh youths – Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged till death by the British colonists.

Taking cognizance of this fact, the new Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Bhagwant Mann declared 23rd March as a public holiday on account of Martyr’s Day.

Excluding the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, there are a total of 25 Bank holidays scheduled in the state of Punjab in 2022

3. Are there more bank holidays 2022 Punjab ?

The designated holidays which are allocated for all bank employees are mentioned above. 

However, the State Government may, in the event of a calamity, strike, necessity, election or disease, designate a certain day(s) as a holiday. 

Usually, the designated holidays are not susceptible to change but there is sufficient authority with the governments to do so.
