Republic Day

Maha shivaratri

According to the Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti unite on this day. This day is celebrated by the Hindu community specially by the devotees of Lord Shiv.

It is believed that on this day the God will listen to the prayers of his devotees and solve their problems. People usually fast on this day and worship Lord Shiva.

Holi

He even tried to kill his son by asking his sister Holika to sit on a pyre with his son. But nothing worked and instead of Prahlad, Holika dies in the fire. 

This day is celebrated as Holika Dahan. Lord Vishnu reincarnated himself into half human and half lion and killed Hiranyakashyap.

This day is celebrated as Holi. This year we are going to celebrate Holi on March 18,2022.

Good Friday

This day is celebrated by all the Christians around the world. A day before Easter is celebrated as Good Friday.

It is believed that on this day Jesus sacrificed himself for the betterment of people. In order to pay him respect, Christians celebrate Good Friday every year.

This year it will be celebrated on April 15, 2022.

Eid-ul-fitr

The season of Ramdam finally comes to an end on this day. This day is celebrated by all the Muslim people with full passion.

People go on fasting for an entire month and at the end of their fasting, they make delicious food, dress up in new clothes and thank their deity for good health.

This day is celebrated as Eid-ul-fitr. This time, this holy event is falling on May 3rd.

Buddha Purnima

Gautam Buddha, the saint who changed the world with his ideology is cherished on this day. He founded the religion Buddhism and on this day, all the Buddhist people commemorate him and his work for the society.

The Buddhist people all across the world will celebrate this day on May 16 this year.

Bakri Eid

Bakri Eid is yet another important festival for all the Muslim people. Usual rituals followed includes buying and feeding a goat and on the day of Bakri Eid they sacrifice the goat to their deity.

The festival of sacrifice will be celebrated on 10th July, Sunday this year.

Muharram

This day is more of a mourning day than a festival. Festival brings joy but this day is dedicated to all the Muslim people to mourn the death of Umam Hussain, the grandson of the prophet.

Muharram falls on 9th August this year which is Tuesday. 

Independence Day

 August 15 is celebrated as Independence day by all the Indians. It is a national holiday on this day to commemorate the day when we got our freedom.

Janmashtami

The day when Lord Krishna was born is celebrated with full energy and devotion by the devotees of Lord Krishna. On this day people stay awake and sing bhajanas in order to welcome the god.

It is believed that Lord Krishna was born in a prison at midnight.

He is a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu and his main motive was to kill Kans who was a torturous King.

Apart from singing bhajans and decorating their homes, people also celebrate this day by playing Dahi Handi where people dress themselves as Lord Krishna and form human pyramids in order to break the pot filled with curd.

This day will be celebrated on 18th August, 2022 this year which is on Thursday is janmashtami bank holiday.

Gandhi Jayanti

The other name for Vijay Dashami is Dussehra. This day is considered to be very auspicious according to Hindu mythology.

This day is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. Lord Ram killed the demon King Ravana as he abducted his wife Sita.

Till this date, people burn the statues of Ravan and celebrate the victory of Lord Ram. This year, Vijay Dashami will be celebrated on October 5, 2022. 

Eid-e-milad

Another auspicious day for our Muslim brothers and sisters is Eid-e-milad. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

This year, this festival will be celebrated on 7th and 8th October. 

Diwali

Just 20 days after Dussehra, Diwali is celebrated. This day is cherished by all the Hindu people.

People buy new clothes, greet their loved ones, prepare delicious dishes and decorate their homes with lights, diyas and beautiful rangolis. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after 14 long years on this day.

To commemorate the birth of the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated with full energy by the Sikh community. This year, the festival falls  on 8th November.
