Methods to Port Number Airtel To Jio

This process can be done both online and offline, depending on your convenience and time. We have detailed all the methods for you below.

How To Change Airtel To Jio Using The Offline Method?

Are you wondering if it is possible to port your Airtel number offline? The answer is YES. For any user who does not want to take the online route of porting their mobile number, there is an offline route as well.

The first step of this process is to request the porting via Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service using a USSD Code. But before applying for portability via MNP, you must have used the Airtel SIM card connection for at least 90 days.

The authorities would not process your request if you had only recently migrated the phone number to the current telecom network.

To receive the USSD code or the Unique Porting number, you must send an SMS in pre-set format from your registered mobile number. You must type the text message 'PORT <10-digit registered Mobile Number>' to 1900.

Remember to type the word 'PORT' in capital letters and without any commas. Make sure you send the SMS from the Airtel phone number you want to switch to Jio. Once you send the message successfully, you will get an SMS from 1901 with the Unique Porting Code (UPC).

Every unique code has its expiry date, stated in that SMS.

You must visit the Jio Store closest to your location after receiving a unique porting number. When you go to the nearest store for porting, make sure you have the following documentation with you:

  • Photocopy of the address evidence

  • 2 passport-size photos

  • 2 photocopies of ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN Card, Driving License, or Voter ID)

  • A photocopy of the most recent fully paid bill from your previous network. I.e., Airtel (in case of postpaid users)

You can ask for assistance with the porting procedure from the store's customer service representatives. After taking your UPC, they will assist you in filling out a Customer Agreement Form.

While the executives check your documents, the Jio representatives will hand you a new Sim Card that will get activated in 7 working days. (Your old SIM will continue to work until the port is completed).

When porting to Jio's network services, you will have to pay a porting fee of Rs. 15 in addition to the other plan fees you choose. If you have a postpaid Airtel connection, you must first pay all of your dues before starting the process of porting your Airtel number.

Remember that the service provider will not carry over your Airtel prepaid balance to your new Jio number once you convert from a prepaid connection to a postpaid one. You will lose your balance.

How To Port Airtel Sim To Jio Using The Website

If you want an alternative to visiting the store, Jio also offers online door-to-door delivery of the new Jio SIM card. Before you start to port your device online, make sure you have relevant documents to confirm your identity and address. Only postpaid connections can book their SIM online as of now.

  • Login to the Reliance Jio website. Type in your name and phone number.

  • Select the option to 'Generate' a one-time-password or OTP.

  • A text with your 6-digit OTP will be sent to your phone.

  • Finally, type the OTP and validate it by pressing the 'Validate OTP' button.

  • A screen will open where you have to enter your details related to your address, i.e., PIN code, landmark, neighborhood, and flat number.

  • Finally, hit the 'Confirm' option for doorstep delivery of your SIM card.

After you have placed the request, a Jio executive will call and check your availability for the delivery of your replacement SIM. Inquire about the Mobile Network Portability service with the executive, and then transmit 'Port' and your mobile number to 1900 to get a Unique Porting Code (UPC).

To start the process, download and open the MyJio mobile application on your mobile phone. Once the mobile app gets opened, select "Not a Jio user?" from the drop-down menu. Selecting this option will open a notification with the choice to Port-in to Jio. Go ahead and choose that option.

You will have to enter your name as well as your 10-digit phone number in the app. After entering your information and phone number, click on the 'Generate One Time Password' button.

Once the OTP gets generated, complete a form with details needed for the delivery, i.e., your address and details such as your neighborhood, zip code, and home number. After providing all the information, and re-checking the same, click on Confirm and Submit.

With this step, your application to port airtel number to Jio gets completed. Expect a call from Jio to verify your address for delivery. You must request the MNP service and mention whether you require a Jio prepaid or postpaid connection.

Documents Required for the Porting Process

You will need to provide documents proving your identity to start porting your Airtel SIM to Jio. You also have to provide evidence that all pending bills and other services are paid off for customers using postpaid connections. For this reason, bring these documents with you:

  • Take your latest bill with you or the payment receipt. This step is important if you are a postpaid subscriber.

  • You will also need to take two photocopies of the Aadhaar as identification and proof of address.

  • You will also need copies of your PAN card, Voter ID, Driver's license, or passport as ID proof.

  • Take two latest photographs (passport-size.)

How much time is needed to port an Airtel SIM to a Jio SIM?

Following the submission of the MNP request, the formalities between the two network providers could take some time. In most cases, the porting process takes 3 to 5 business days.

The laws established by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, commonly known as TRAI, govern the porting process. Upon successful confirmation, your number gets activated in three days if you port your Airtel mobile number to Jio inside the same service area.

The exact process may take a week (5 to 7 working days) to port your Airtel mobile number if the telecom circle is different.

However, if you want to port from states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and the North-East part of India, it will take 15 business days. During this time, there will be no disruption in your services. Therefore, there is no need to worry about being disconnected from your loved ones due to porting.

Regulations for Postpaid and prepaid customers while porting their Airtel numbers to Jio.

If you are a postpaid user, you must clear all postpaid bills before moving your Airtel Postpaid number to Jio. Apply for a number port close to the end of the payment cycle. Before you decide to port, you should check Airtel vs. Jio Postpaid Plans.

You can even pay a bit extra to cover any over usage charges to make the transaction easier.

It is easier to port a prepaid connection in Airtel because no bill receipts with no dues are required. However, choose the option to port the SIM when your current recharge plan or Airtel Net Pack is set to expire. This ensures that you are using the services to the last rupee paid.

Final Words

Porting your number is quite a straightforward process. It can be done both online and offline, and you can choose to have your SIM delivered to your door. However, note that you must have used the existing SIM card connection for at least 90 days before placing a request for mobile number portability.

The potential network provider can deny your application if the SIM card has recently been migrated to the existing network operator.

So, if you are unhappy with the service offered by Airtel, you can give Jio a try. This hassle-free process allows you a smooth shift to a new operator. We have outlined the steps on how to port your SIM port, including SMS submission, document verification.
