BSE or Bombay Stock Exchange Holidays : The normal day of stock exchanges' working days are from Monday to Friday.

 Generally, on the weekends that is Saturday and Sunday, the exchange is closed. The opening and closing days of the Bombay Stock Exchange are variable. 

 However, it is essential to note that the stock exchange can be closed on particular days apart from the weekend when there is a national or government holiday scheduled.

It makes it more important for anybody who has invested or trading in the stock market to know about these holidays.

The normal morning timings are 9 AM to 5 PM and evening timings are from 5 PM to 11:30 PM.

Bombay Stock Exchange is the first stock exchange in India even before the National Stock Exchange was established. Bombay Stock Exchange is the oldest exchange in Asia and it is the 10th oldest in the world. 

It was established on 9th July 1875 by a cotton merchant, a Rajasthani Jain businessman Premchand Roychand. 

Now after 147 years and almost 6000 listed companies the market cap of BSE has reached around $3.6 trillion as of Jan 2022. Sensex is the benchmark index in the BSE as the National Stock Exchange has Nifty 50.

In BSE the Sensex is influenced by the top 30 companies listed in the exchange as compared to National Stock Exchange which considers the top 100 companies. These 30 are the largest and actively exchanged stocks.

Bombay Stock Exchange Trading Schedule

Following is the trading schedule for the Bombay Stock Exchange.  The schedule includes the pre-open timings, regular training timings, closing sessions and the block deal session timing.

  • Pre-open Timings

Pre-open timings are the timing which is given before opening the market. It is the period between 9 AM to 9:15 AM. This 15 minutes of the time interval is called pre-open timings.

This time is given to bids and offers a price for stocks before the actual market opens. These bids and offers in the time interval of 15 minutes are given preference to first settle the transaction before those who make after 9:15 AM.

  • Regular Trading Timings

The regular training timings are from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM

Here bilateral order matching system means that it is a simple demand and supply scenario in which if someone wants to buy a particular share and some are ready to sell the same share .

The buyer is looking for the exchange settles their transaction and the transfer of share and money. But these bilateral orders are highly fluctuating, which is why pre-opening systems are used.

  • Closing session

The closing session starts from 3:15 PM to 4 PM. An investor can go and buy or sell a share thus creating an order which an investor can do but the price of the share will remain the same at the time of closing. 

The transactions performed for the proposals taken place during this period are not influenced by the opening price of the market.

  • Block Deal Session Timings

This is a chance for everyone to grab a deal at the market opening of the day.

  • The first is in the morning from 8:45 AM to the 9 AM
  • The second block deal starts at 2:50 PM and ends at 2:20 PM
  • These deals can't be squared off or reversed.

But there are certain times when the scenario is different from the other day like Diwali is supposed to be a holiday.

This festival is considered auspicious for buying investment that is why Muhurat trading happens which has no fixed time as it changes with the Muhurat.
