 Assam Holiday List 2022

The government granted a total of forty holidays in Assam in 2022. This includes festivals and national days as well as the special days of Assam. The holidays are as follows:

1- Holidays in January

Assam special holiday

Assam special holiday is observed on 6th and 7th of January, 2022. This holiday is announced by the chief minister of Assam, Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, for the government employees of Assam to celebrate the quality time with their loved ones under the vision of ‘New India’ and ‘New Assam’.

Magh Bihu

Magh Bihu is a harvest festival in Assam, North-East India, that commemorates the conclusion of the harvest season in the month of Magh.

This festival is observed on January 14th, 2022. Whether it's Makar Sankranti or Magh Bihu, the celebration honours the god of fire.

The harvest season comes to a conclusion with this festivity. This event is celebrated in Assam for two days. Magh Bihu, also known as the harvest festival, is devoted to Lord Surya.

Tusu Puja

This is also celebrated on the 14th of January, 2022. On this auspicious day, people of Assam worship the goddess Tusu who symbolizes kindness, love and sacrifice.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti

Netaji Jayanti, also known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti, is a national holiday in India commemorating the birth of the great Indian liberation fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

It is also known as Parakram Diwas or Parakram Divas (lit. 'Day of Valour'). On the 23rd of January, it is commemorated.

Gothor Bathou Sun

It is celebrated on 25th of January, 2022. It is the regional public holiday of Assam which marks the Bathouism festival celebrated by the ethnic group called Bodo-Kachari people.

Republic day

Republic Day honours India's spirit of independence and self-determination. Purna Swaraj, the proclamation of India's independence from colonial authority, was issued on this day in 1930 by the Indian National Congress.

The day also honours Indian residents' democratic right to pick their government.

Me-dam-me-phi

Bakrid is reported on 10th July, 2022. It celebrated to commemorate the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim who agreed to sacrifice everything on the command of god

Independence Day

Every year, this day is celebrated on 15th of august and signifies the independence of India from Britishers.

Janmashtami  

Janmashtami is reported on 19th August, 2022 which marks the birth of Lord Krishna, the supreme personality.

Tithi of Srimatna Sankardev

This day is reported on 29th of August which marks the death anniversary of saint scholar Srimatna Sankardev.

Karman Puja

It is celebrated on September 6th, 2022 which is the harvest festival of Assam celebrated by the Tea Tribe community.

Tithi of Sri Sri Madhav Devi

It is celebrated on 14th September, 2022 and marks the death anniversary of Madhav Devi, a saint reformer.

Maha Saptami

It is recorded on the 2nd October, 2022 which marks the seventh day of Navratri, a nine days festival of goddess Durga.

Gandhi Jayanti

Every year on October 2nd, Gandhi Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, better known as Mahatma Gandhi. As the "Father of the Nation," he spearheaded India's independence struggle alongside many other national leaders against British control.

Durga Ashtami and Durga Navmi

It is recorded on 3rd and 4th October of 2022 respectively. This marks the eighth and ninth day of Navratri. Each day is devoted to the worship of a different manifestation of Maa Durga. Maha Ashtami and Maha Navami are the holiest days during Chaitra Navratri. On these two days, people do numerous pujas in order to obtain Goddess Durga's blessings.

Every year, October 5 is observed as the birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev

Dussehra

It is observed on 5th October, 2022. This marks the victory of lord Rama who defeated the evil king of Lanka, Ravana.

Kati Bihu
