PROS

  2. As an Indian foreign service officer, you can get a car for transportation, and the government will pay all of your bills, including phone, medical, and housing bills.

You can also hire security, bodyguards, and servants to work in your home for your comfort and convenience, and after retirement, you will receive a minimum pension from the government.

  3. Compared to other Indian departments such as IAS and IPS, you can obtain a good average income as an Indian foreign service officer if posted in foreign countries.

CONS

  1. Even though you will have the opportunity to bring your parents and family members with you when you are posted in foreign countries because you will be transferred frequently as a diplomat, it will have an impact on your family's life because they will constantly be changing and settling into new environments and cultures, which can be challenging to accommodate.

  2. If you bring your children with you on frequent transfers, their education and life may be impacted because they will have to attend new schools and universities, start their preparation from scratch, and make new friends every time they visit a new nation.

  3. You have no control over which country you will be posted to, leading to many variabilities.

You could work as a diplomat in countries like Iraq, Iran, or Syria, which are war-prone, or in countries like Nigeria and Egypt, where the environmental conditions are difficult to live in.
