Dev Uthani Ekadashi Vrat Katha

According to one of the popular legends associated with the Devutthana Ekadashi, there lived a benevolent king who religiously observed a fast on the Ekadashi Tithis.

He was so strict about the Ekadashi Vrat that he did not let grocery stores in his kingdom to remain open on the Ekadashi Tithis. One day, a man visited his palace in need of work. He pleaded to the king to give him a job.

And the king agreed on the condition that he will have to observe a fast on the Ekadashi Tithi. However, a few days later on the Ekadashi Tithi, the man pleaded to the king to offer his some food grains.

The King, who was generous, couldn't say no to the man. Therefore he gave him some food grains. A fortnight later, on the next Ekadashi Tithi, the man sought help from the king once again.

His requests made the King wonder how the man could all the food all alone. On being asked by the king, the man said that on the day of Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu joins him for a meal.

The King refused to believe. He wondered how
God never gave him a darshan despite all the vrats he has kept so far in his life. Therefore, on the Ekadashi Tithi, the King asked the man to prove to him that God indeed meets him.

Subsequently, the man prepared food and waited for God, but the latter did not turn up. The king hid behind a tree to know whether or not the man was telling the truth.

However, after waiting patiently, when God did not arrive, the man walked towards the river to drown himself to death. But just before he could jump into the river, God appeared before him.

Only after learning that the man had only told the truth, the king realised the importance of true devotion. He realised that the vrats that he kept all his life were a mere formality. Therefore, he learnt that a Vrati must keep a vrat whole-heartedly.

Significance of Dev Uthani Ekadashi Ki Katha Lyrics

Hindu religious mythology holds that Lakshmi Ji once enquired of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu: "O Nath! If you awaken day and night without sleeping, you will doze off for thousands of millions of years, obliterating all the meadows.

As a result, you should follow the norm and have some rest each year. I'll be able to rest while doing this. Narayan grinned as he listened to Lakshmi ji and said: "a goddess! You're correct.

Because of my awakening, all gods suffer, but especially you. I don't give you a break in any way. Therefore, based on your account, I shall no longer work during the rainy season and instead sleep for four months each year.

The protector of nature is Lord Vishnu. The world continues because of his grace. It is said that on the Harishayani Ekadashi of the Ashadha month, Lord Vishnu transfers control of creation to Lord Shiva and enters a four-month yoga nidra.

The Chatumas are these four months. On Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu enters a four-month yoga nidra. Kartik awakens once more on Shukla Ekadashi. All auspicious work is restricted for four months starting today.

On the day of Devotthan Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu awakens. All auspicious works start once he awakens. Devotthan Ekadashi is the name of this day.
