Significance

As of 1950, India's constitution, which replaced the British colonial Government of India Act (1935) as the country's governing document, became the world's largest democracy.

The Preamble to the Constitution of India summarises the main principles of its principle of independence so effectively that it went into effect on January 26, 1950, which was on the eve of Independence Day.

This signifies the end of the country's transition from a monarchy to a republic, thus marking the completion of the country's transition.

This country's Constitution clearly defines what rights every citizen of this country should be entitled to have regardless of their political beliefs or ideology.

Whatever they may believe, the Constitution outlines a number of fundamental rights. Additionally, the constitution lays down some fundamental duties that are universally applicable to all citizens of the country.

History OF This Festival

The Independence Day parade commemorates the independence of India from British dominion, while Republic Day celebrates the establishment of the Commonwealth of the Independent States and the founding of the Constitution of the United States of America.

It can be stated that the Indian National Congress issued the Purna Swaraj Declaration on October 29, 1929, calling for the end of British dominion over the continent.

In the year of 1961, the Indian National Congress released the declaration of independence on the 26th of January.

Independence was achieved by India on August 15, 1947. Several weeks later, on August 29, a committee for drafting a draft constitution for independent India was formed.

Since then, the committee has been working on drafting the constitution. As the chairman of the committee, Dr BR Ambedkar has been appointed.

The Constituent Assembly drafted the constitution on November 4, 1947, and it has been submitted to the committee. Several sessions of the Assembly were held during the last two years before the Constitution was finally adopted.

After many hours of deliberation and with the agreement made with a few changes, on January 24, 1950, the 308 members of the National Assembly signed two handwritten versions of the document to seal the agreement.

In the first instance, the message was in Hindi and in the second instance, it was in English.

On January 26, 1950, two days after it was adopted, the constitution came into force. That was the day Dr. Rajendra Prasad assumed the duties of the President of the Indian Union for the first time.
