History of WWE Royal Rumble

Pat Patterson, a WWE Hall of Famer, created the Royal Rumble title match, which was sanctioned by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE).

The first Royal Rumble event took place on January 24, 1988, after being tested at a house show in October 1987. It aired live as a television special on the USA Network.

The following year, the event was broadcast on pay-per-view, becoming one of the promotion's "Big Four" annual pay-per-views, alongside WrestleMania, Survivor Series, and SummerSlam. It was considered one of the "Big Five" from 1993 to 2002.

Due to the length of the Rumble matches, the Rumble event typically has a smaller card than most other pay-per-view events, which typically have six to eight matches per card.

Since the Royal Rumble expanded to a five-hour show plus a two-hour kickoff show in 2018, the card has primarily consisted of nine to twelve matches, with two or three of those matches taking place on the kickoff show.

With the exception of 2018, the men's Royal Rumble match is always at the top of the card. The main event in 1988 was a tag team match, with the other matches being world championship matches.

The 2018 Royal Rumble was the first to feature a women's Royal Rumble match as the main event.

It was later the first event to feature both a men's and a women's Rumble match on the same card, and both a men's and a women's Rumble match is now standard.

Basic Information about Royal Rumble:

  • A total of thirty wrestlers take part in this creative pseudo-wrestling competition.
  • It has an audience of both teens and adults alike.
  • The competition is of the last man standing type where all 30 players enter the ring and take on the winner of the last match.
  • The competition spans weeks at a time.
  • A player is eliminated when he is thrown over the rope of the ring and both his feet land on the ground.
  • This gave the sport a whole new audience.
  • Females have started taking an interest in WWE sports more than they already were.
  • The winners of both, the men’s and the women’s Royal Rumble get a chance to battle in the championship match at Wrestlemania which is the biggest WWE event.
  • The winners are awarded with their own engraved wrestling belt which is usually at stake during such championships.
  • It is customary now to have a 30-man and 30-woman Royal Rumble event every year

No one can deny that the WWE is a strange and twisted sport. Nonetheless, it’s one of the most famous sports ever to take place on earth.

So many fans have watched during their childhood and loved their favorite wrestlers, whom they may never meet in person again.

It’s times like these that make us realize how beautiful each moment in our lives is. We should cherish them dearly and not at anytime tell ourselves that we can go back and change things.

We don’t want to be like Marty McFly from Back to the Future, who arrived early to his Future by mistake and changed it drastically.
