Recruitment of CID officers

UPSC CSE: The main recruitment body responsible for conducting examinations for various posts in the Crime Investigation Department is UPSC - Union Public Service Commission.

One can become a CID officer through UPSC Civil Services Examination, which takes place once every year.

UPSC is considered to be the toughest examination as many candidates sit for the exam. It is known for its cut-throat competition. To crack UPSC CSE, one needs to work hard with consistency.

UPSC CSE consists of two sections- Preliminary and Mains. After clearing Prelims and Mains, the candidate is called for an interview.

SSC CGL: Another recruitment body that conducts examinations for CID is the Staff Selection Commission(SSC). SSC CGL exam(Combined Graduate Level Exam) is conducted by SSC. IT is also held once every year.

This exam is comparatively easier than UPSC CSE, which is why it is chosen by many of the candidates.

Qualification for CID 

The candidate must fulfill the following conditions to become a CID officer:

• Educational Qualifications: The candidate must have passed 10+2 in any stream. He must have also graduated in any stream from a recognized university.

• Citizenship: The candidate must be an Indian Citizen.
  
  
• Sex: Both male and female candidates are eligible.
  
  
• Age criteria: The candidate must be a minimum of 20 years of age and a maximum of 27 of age.
  
  
• Age Relaxation: 5 years of relaxation is available for SC/ST category students i.e. their age limits are 20-32 years. 3 years of relaxation are available for OBC students i.e. their age limits are 20-30 years.
  
  
• Minimum height required:
  Male: 165 cm,
  Female: 150 cm,
  Candidates belonging to hills and tribal areas: Relaxation of 5 cm
  
  
• Eyesight: Distant vision must be 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other. Near vision must be 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in the other.
  
  
• Chest size: 76 cm without expansion
  
  
• Number of attempts: The number of attempts for the General category is 4, the OBC category is 7 and the SC/ST category has no limits.

How to Join CID India

UPSC CSE - The most common way of becoming a CID officer is through the UPSC CSE examination, held once every year. UPSC CSE stands for Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination.

This entrance exam has three stages namely Prelims, Mains and Interview. Upon clearing all the three stages, the candidate gets his name on the all India merit list and undergoes further training.

It is considered to be the toughest examination in India and requires utmost dedication to score well in this exam.

SSC CGL - Another entrance test to become a CID officer is the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Examination(SSC CGL).

This exam is easier than the UPSC CSE however one cannot be complacent as a lot of candidates sit for this exam too which can further push the cut-off.

By joining the Police Forces - One can also become a CID officer by joining the Police Forces at any rank and thereafter giving internal entrance examinations conducted by these forces for selection into the CID branch.
