1. Makar Sankranti (January 14)

This day is celebrated by the Hindus with the hope of bringing good luck to their lives.

7. Buddha Purnima (May 16)

8. Vat Savitri Vrat (May 30)

Women fast on the no moon day in the month of May, which is observed and celebrated by Hindus. This is done to honour Savitri, who resurrected her deceased husband.

9. Rath Yatra (July 1)

On this day, Lord Jagannath, who is regarded to be the Lord of the Universe, is honoured. His travel to his aunt's house is commemorated in this festivity.

10. Guru Purnima (July 13) 

This day is celebrated by the Hindus to honour and give respect to the teachers in their life.

11. Hariyali Teej (July 31)

This festival of the Hindus is celebrated to honour and commemorate the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

12. Raksha Bandhan (August 11)

This is the occasion for any brother-sister relationship to be honoured. On this day, the brother vows his sister that he will always protect and cherish her.

13. Krishna Janmashtami (August 19)

On Janmashtami, Hindus commemorate the birth of Lord Vishnu's eighth avatar, Lord Krishna. People fast and pray in preparation for the event.

14. Nand Utsav (August 20)

This day is observed to celebrate the coming of Lord Krishna into his home after his birth. 

15. Hartalika Teej (August 30)

This is a ritual where unmarried women fast in order to get a good husband and in honour of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

16. Ganesh Chaturthi (August 31)

Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival that commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha. The festival commemorates the birth of the God of Prosperity and Wisdom and lasts for ten days.

17. Anand Chaturdashi (September 9)

This festival is celebrated by the Hindus where they dedicate a day to Lord Vishnu and worship his eternal form. 

18. Mahalaya (September 25)

On this day, Hindus pay homage to and honour their forefathers and mothers by conducting shradh. Various rituals are done in order to obtain the ancestors' blessings and guidance for a calm and prosperous existence.

19. Durga Puja Ghatasthapan (September 26)

This day is a part of the Durga puja celebration, where the devotes fast and pray to the goddess and seek for her blessings. 

20. Durgashtami (October 3)

This day is celebrated to honour the Goddess Shakti who symbolises eternal power and the victory of good over evil. 

21. Mahanavami (October 4)

On this day, the Goddess Durga is worshipped in various and different forms all over the country. It is also the day before the Goddess got her victory against the demon. 

22. Vijaya Dashami (October 5)

Ram's victory against Ravan after the latter stole Ram's wife, Sita, is commemorated on Vijaya Dashami

23. Lakshmi Puja (October 9)

On this day the Hindus celebrate and buy jewelleries and ornaments of value and honour the Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi.

24. Karva Chauth (October 13)

This festival or ritual is observed by every Hindu married woman. On this festival they fast for the longevity of their husband’s life. 

25. Dhanteras (October 23)

This day is celebrated by the Hindus as the first day of Diwali festival and the people worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber.

26. Diwali (October 24) 

The Hindu festival of Diwali is celebrated all around the world. On this particular day, the walls are adorned with miniature oil lamps, lights, and great embellishments. People are dressed up and exchanging gifts and affection.

27. Bhai dooj (October 26) 

This day is celebrated to mark the love of a brother and sister. The sister offers prayers on this day for her brother’s long life. 

28. Chhath Puja (October 30)

The Chhath Puja is performed to thank the Sun for delivering the gifts of life on Earth and for fulfilling specific human desires. People take part in this event by praying and performing religious ceremonies.

29. Akshaya Navami (November 2)

Hindus offer prayers and wishes with full devotion and dedication on this day with the belief that they will be rewarded not only in the present but also in the future. 

30. Dev Diwali (November 7)

This day is celebrated by lighting the whole of Ganges with lamps and honouring the Goddess Ganga.  

Hindu Calendar Origin 

Hindu calendar is one of the lunisolar calendars available in India for its citizens. They are widely used in India and some parts of southeast Asia

The Hindu calendar was first used during the Vedic period and has been in usage ever since.
