64 ancient Jyotirlinga shrines are mentioned in the Shiva Mahpura (also known as Shiva Purana), 12 of which are the most revered and are known as the Maha Jyotirlingam. 

Twelve of the 64 jyotirlingas that were originally thought to exist are revered as being especially lucky and holy. The name of the ruling god, who is regarded as a unique incarnation of Shiva, is used for each of the twelve jyotirlinga locations.

The main picture at each of these locations is a lingam, which stands for the everlasting Stambha pillar, a symbol of Shiva's limitless nature.

Ujjaiyinyam Mahakaalam Omkarama-Maleshwaram Mahakaal in Ujjain, Omkareshwar in Amleshwar, Somanath in Saurashtra, and Mallikarjunam in Shri-Shailam.

2. Paralyam Vaidyanatham Cha Dakinyam Bheemashankaram |

Setubandhe Tu Ramesham Nagesham Darukavane Ramesham (Rameshwaram) in Sethubandh, Nagesham (Nageshwar) in Darauka-Vana, and Vaidyanath in Paralya and Bhimashankaram in Dakinya.
